For those offering or needing translation or interpreting services, ADÜ Nord is absolutely the right place: ADÜ Nord – Assoziierte Dolmetscher und Übersetzer in Norddeutschland e.V. (associated interpreters and translators in northern Germany) – provides a trade association for professional providers of language services, with its geographical base and point of emphasis in northern Germany. The association has its headquarters in Hamburg, yet its membership is comprised of translators and interpreters from Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony, as well as from the rest of Germany and from abroad.
Quality is a big part of what ADÜ Nord is all about – that is why challenging criteria apply to membership in the association. These include proof of having attained a relevant qualification in higher education or from a state examination or one officially recognised by the state. The new membersꞌ committee can also decide regarding acceptance, after thoroughly reviewing the application.
More than 320 members currently belong to ADÜ Nord. They use around 50 working languages – from A for Afghan via G for German Sign Language through to V for Vietnamese. As part of this, the professional linguists that jointly comprise ADÜ Nord offer specialisations that include all areas of society and business life: for example technology, commerce, law, medicine, the humanities, literature and many more. In addition, many members are also sworn or authorised translators or interpreters; this qualifies them to fulfil language-related assignments in a court of law or in other contexts that involve public authorities.
In short: ADÜ Nord – Assoziierte Dolmetscher und Übersetzer in Norddeutschland e.V. – is the established cross-regional association for interpreters and translators in northern Germany.
